Dr. Takeuchi is President of SAWAKO TAKEKUCHI design office, a former president of la Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris (http://www.mcjp.fr/),  serving as senior advisor to the Cultural Agency of Japan. She sit on the board meeting of HORIBA, Ltd. (http://horiba.com )  as external board menber since 2016.

 

She is a pioneer to explore possibilities to teach at Japanese leading universities. She was the first female professor at the engineering department of the University of Tokyo  for its 120 year history, then taught at Kyoto University for environmental sciences. She was also professor of economics at the advanced policy research center at the Economics department of Orient (Toyo) University, while teaching management of technology in the University of Tokyo.

 

Dr. Takeuchi holds two PhDs, PhD in engineering from the Tokyo University for urban engineering and PhD of economics for water management and public-private initiative. She is expert of interdisciplinary research in the areas of social application of environmental technologies, urban design and regional planning.

 

She started her academic career in France at Institut des Sciences Mathématique et Economique Appliquées in Paris as researcher and started to teach at Université de Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne requested by French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She then joined Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, one of the top French engineering schools, as professor and vice president for a graduate school of international management. Those experiences enhanced her capability to play a leading role in multicultural environment.

 

For public services, Dr. Takeuchi sit on Economic Strategic committee during Prime Minister Obuchi’s cabinet for policy reform and served as a member of various expert committees in Japanese government, such as tax reform, public pension fund reform, decentralization, public-private initiative. She served also as Ambassador and Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs to establish a new information sharing mechanism among Asian countries.

 

She has a keen interest of education of young professionals in Japan. In 2006, she founded a Leadership Program for “Innovative Engineers” supported by Nissan Scientific Foundation. This program is designed to encourage new social entrepreneurship and to support their realization through funding. She keeps a special interest for leadership education since then.

 

She was leader for many international project. She presided World Bank’s project, Global Fund for Disaster Reduction and Recovery as the Chair from 2007-2010. From 2010-2014, she worked as a research head of JICA-JST project on environmental technology application in India.

 

For cross-cultural activities, she showed a lot of producer skills of cultural events such as concerts, exhibitions, conferences during her mission in Paris as head of governmental cultural institution. Thanks to her efforts, the number of visitors and participants doubled, and the number of language students increased tenfold.

 

She published several books and wrote many articles. Her books include:

For journalism, she worked as columnist for Yomiuri newspaper and Asahi newspaper and wrote more than 100 articles on Japanese societies.  

 

In 2005, she was awarded the Order of National Merit by French government. In 2014 she was awarded the Order of Arts and Literature ( L’Ordre National des Arts et des Lettres) by French Government.   

 

She speaks fluent French and English. She is also a classically trained pianist and a tea ceremony master.

竹内佐和子の略歴(2016年7月現在)

 

   

1952年生まれ。工学博士(東京大学),経済学博士。裏千家茶道教授。現在、竹内佐和子デザインオフィス代表。

1980年代半ば、フランスの応用数理経済研究所で、コレージュ・ド・フランスのフランソワ・ペルー教授の下でクロード・レビーストロースの構造主義について研究したあと、パリ大学、客員教授を務め、そのあと、理工系グランゼコールのポンゼショセ校にて、国際ビジネス大学院の副所長を務める。

帰国後、日本長期信用銀行の主席研究員を経たあと、東京大学大学院工学系研究科助教授に就任、続いて東洋大学経済学部教授を勤める。2005年から京都大学客員教授を任命され、アーバンデザインを教える。

政府関係では、小渕政権のときの経済戦略会議委員として地域文化政策などに関わり、2006年からは、外務省参与・大使としてアジアの環境や文化政策にも関わる。国際的には、世界銀行で、文化都市政策、文化財の保護、工芸技術の継承についてフィールドワークを行う。

国内では、日本の文化芸術への強い関心から、工芸職人の工房を回り、工芸技術と先端技術の融合に関心を持ち続けている。

2011年からパリの日本文化会館館長として、日本文化の発信事業を積極的に行い、2014年志村ふくみの「色をつむぐ」展、友禅の人間国宝の森口邦彦の「友禅模様の隠れた秩序」展など、工芸デザインの展覧会を次々に企画した。現代アートでは高橋コレクションを中心とする「Cosmos Intime」展を監修した。

幼少のころから、日本文化に親しみ、茶道は裏千家、茶名は宗和。華道は池坊系真流。古今和歌集を中心にかな書の精進を重ねている。ピアノは、フランスが誇るジャンマルク・ルイサダなどに師事している。

 著作に、「ヨーロッパ的発想とは何か、統合ECを支える多元性と普遍主義」、「21世紀の社会資本」「都市デザイ

ン」「都市政策」などがある。日仏経済学会理事。

フランス国家からフランス国家功労勲章シュバリエ、文化芸術勲章シュヴァリエを授与されている。
